About Me

Studio Bart Vernooij is a design studio focusing on both material research and craftmanship.

At the moment specializing on ceramics, woodworking and sustainable material applications.

This means the projects can range from table ware, to furniture, to surf- and skate-boards made with natural fibers. However they all share the same design methodology, rooted in a fascination for materials and production-processes.

I currently run the studio in a rather nomadic sense, spending my time between The Netherlands, Spain and soon, Portugal.This plays a big part in my work as it allows me to draw inspiration from all these places.
I enjoy looking at things, watching them evolve, grow and change over time. That is why I am fascinated by nature, but also by culture, history and even economy.

Process is very important to me. I believe that if you know where something comes from, what it is built upon, you have a much better understanding of what you are looking at. Therefore as a designer I think it is essential to look at the materials you are working with and how they are processed to achieve the final product. This has often played a big role in my approach to projects.

I have finished a Bachelor in Product Design at the Design Academy in Eindhoven (2019) and a Masters degree in ‘Design management, strategy and entrepreneurship’ in Barcelona (2021).

Besides my creative work I like to spend my time outside, traveling, hiking, cycling, taking pictures, skating or on the beach, surfing.
