Drop-Through Long-Board

A look into performance materials

This project I did in collaboration with my friend Jordan Morineau. We created these long-boards because we share a passion for action-sports.

They are built from a bamboo and fiberglass composite, consisting of several layers of material, which we laminated together in a vacuum-bag.

These panels were then shaped by hand and decorated with a silkscreen print. The fiberglass is hidden by a layer of bamboo veneer, making the deck look like a solid piece of bamboo and protecting the user from sharp fiberglass splinters.
The composite makes the deck very flexible and springy, giving the board a smooth sensation when used. Perfect for carving into turns and absorbing vibrations from the road surface.
